New Menu at House at Dempsey.

Last Wednesday, Cassandra and I visited House at Dempsey for their tasting session. We were treated to a crazy spread and most of the dishes are from House's new menu. We also took some pretty pictures because our host, Janet, even prepared some props for us to do a flatlay! And yes, for the first time in my life I stood on a chair just to take the picture below. All I know is that I'll never attempt it again haha! My hands and legs were shaking as I snapped this shot... (Hence the blur scallops!)

That evening, we were treated to House's Broccoli, Quinoa and Pom Pom Salad, Baked Scallops on Shell, Bone Marrow and Steak Burger with Bacon Jam, Portobello Schnitzel Bun, Stinky Meets Crispy Chicken Waffles, House's famous Truffle Fries.. AND finally, we shared a steaming hot Tau Sar Pau. (The last two are not pictured.) So so stuffed at the end of the dinner!

Surprisingly, I would have to say that the Broccoli, Quinoa and Pom Pom Salad was my favourite dish of the night. Some might not agree with me but I just couldn't resist such a flavourful salad. I cook at home and I know that it's not easy to prepare a yummy salad. If you want to toss a good one, you'll need lots of ingredients and I think it's more cost-effective to just order it at a good restaurant. 

I really really loved the pomegranate raita that House prepared for the salad. I remember trying a raita that my university professor prepared for the class during our last lecture together and I quickly fell in love with the Pakistani/Bangladeshi yogurt-based dip. It wasn't heavy like cream-based dips, and yet it was flavourful because of the spices that were mixed into it. House's raita dip paired well with the salad that had so many textures altogether because of the broccoli, quinoa, nuts, super leaves and avocado thrown into it. It was crunchy, creamy, sweet, sour and spicy. These flavours and textures went so well together. I shall attempt to follow a raita recipe and have it with salads and chips!

Second on my favourites would be the Baked Scallops on Shell appetiser. Juicy scallops were spiced up with Mediterranean eggplant zaalouk and topped with Spanish migas. Alright I've no idea what's zaalouk and migas too hahaha, I just quoted from the menu. After topping your scallop with a good squeeze of lemon, shove the whole thing in your mouth! The zaalouk that's made up of cooked eggplant was velvety and sweet. I'm a fan of savoury foods and dishes and this one lived up to my expectations. Wished I had tried it right when it came out of the kitchen! Piping hot and savoury scallop sounds even more delicious!

The last dish that I would recommend would be the Stinky Meets Crispy Chicken Waffles. It's an interesting fusion dish that pairs Chinese-style har cheong gai with crispy waffles and a maple syrup sambal chilli sauce. You need to have it while its hot so that the waffles would taste crispy on the outside and light on the inside. The chicken was boneless, very juicy and smelly! House went all out to create the perfect stinky har cheong sai that you can only find at good zi char places. The only qualm I have with it is that it's a little too salty. Otherwise, it's a creative main dish that you won't find anywhere else.

Many thanks again to House and Janet for hosting us. We went home with full bellies! We loved the beautiful decor at House as well. House at Dempsey also collaborates with Tiong Bahru Bakery that supplies some of their buns and breads, and with Open Farm Community that supplies them with locally grown fresh produce. You should give the place a visit if you're looking for a quaint restaurant that offers great fusion cuisine cooked with excellent ingredients!
