Valentino | Spring 2012 Couture

It's pretty, but it's still the same.

When Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri first took over Valentino as head designers, their couture collections were amazing to me, even if Valentino himself disapproves. There was boldness, creativity, workmanship and beauty. But now all that left is workmanship and beauty. Signature Valentino ribbons, simple cut-outs, heavy embellishments, floral reappeared in this collection. It seems to me that no one would find it incoherent if this collection is placed alongside the previous one, it's almost a continuation. I guess that they have lost to realism, tending to be safe to appeal to the consumers who adore this face of Valentino.

Elie Saab | Spring 2012 Couture

By far my favourite couture collection by Elie Saab.

Undeniably still on the safe side, I was still drawn in by the intricately embroided capes and cocktail dresses. His dresses are always beautiful, that's hard to disagree, but to create such structured pieces on the heavily embroided dresses is a tough job. I am never really a fan of cocktail dresses featured in couture collections because I find that it's more satisfying to see the details in a full length gown. However, the cocktail dresses featured here are really breathtaking as Elie Saab is able to present his famous embroidery work on shorter dresses, enough to make heads turn but yet, still pieces of understated elegance.

The Red Carpet.

Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann. She's really one of a kind. The dress is perfect on her because the powder blue really matches her skin tone. The dress shows off her silhouette and with the strong shoulders, she's a winner. This look is voted by Vogue as Best Dressed.

Charlize Theron, in Dior, was voted best-dressed by some of the press. I really can't stand headbands with gowns.

Angelina Jolie in an Atelier Versace gown. I think she pulls it off really well. It's a tough gown to wear.

Jessica Biel in Elie Saab. A great dress. I love the detail at the front.

Supermodel Elle Macphearson in Zac Posen. She should really ditch the bracelets. Many condemned the dress, but I think it's still pretty, especially when seen from the side view.

Julie Bowen from Modern Family in a gown by Reem Acra. I've something against her hair.

Diane Lane in Reem Acra as well. I don't know who she is but she looks beautiful.

Shailene Woodley in Marchesa.

Heidi Klum in custom Calvin Klein. I usually love anything by Francisco Costa but not really into this one.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. She said she loves Vera Wang because Vera Wang sends her dresses that zip and close. Haha! She really looks like a mermaid here.

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci. She's actually so pretty without her bangs. I love her in any way though.

Emma Stone in custom Lanvin. Love the colour.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel. Beautiful.

Dianna Agron in Giles Deacon. I love the designer and I'm happy to see the dress on the red carpet. It's a beautiful dress but I agree that she's literally too red.

Michelle Williams in Jason Wu. Love the colour and the fit but ugh the headband.

Natalie Portman in Lanvin. Can't believe that she's a mum.

Versace Spring 2012 Campaign | Featuring Gisele Bundchen, Shot by Mert and Marcus

There's a good reason why this is my favourite campaign of the season. Frankly speaking, some of the pieces in the Versace for H&M collection are really similar to those in the Versace Spring 2012 collection. Donatella Versace would really need a good campaign to present the idea of luxury, and on how they are different from the clothes she created for a high street label. This glamorous campaign is what she needed.

I don't actually believe in the phrase 'past season'.

Pieces from collections from years ago can still look beautiful today.

He took pictures of prints and folded them, then used the folded ones on the dresses to create the image of a fractured, broken down art work.

The palette is very refreshing, very pure, very therapeutic.

This is the first post where I actually introduce items in my wardrobe.

I'm sorry I don't have a good camera or a pretty face and body to 'model' the clothes that I own, so I end up posting mainly fashion news.

Well, back to the shoes, I got them at Charles and Keith for $43.90.

I first saw them on Hosanna Swee from Wardrobe Flux (as shown above), where she posted the same ones in faux python skin but also mentioned that there are black velvet ones in stores.

I tried both on and the black ones are much stiffer but I still got them because it's easier to mix and match.

If you're looking for alternatives, Rubi has similar ones at $30 and Topshop also carries them at $66.

To me it's a must-have!

She's simple in her dressing, but to me it's elegant and pretty.

You have to credit her model looks, tall enough to pull off heavy knits and coats,

but the ensembles look so casual and easy but still modern.

She's ventured from being a fashion blogger to a stylist, and now a designer for H&M (the last dress is her creation), a consultant for NOWHERE, fashion director and model for STYLEBY magazine.

She's earning big bucks because of her style. Admirable.

I love projects like this.

Hanneli is a great street style photographer and model, her style is also beautiful and very refreshing.

I've included the link of the source, she has included where and how she got these pieces.

For example, the mint sweater was knitted by her boyfriend's mother and she found the yarn.

It's inspiring and in a way it has spurred me on to learn knitting, her sweater is such a beautiful piece.

I'll share more projects like this if I come across them next time.

Long Skirts.

I own three long skirts. One mod, one bohemian, one pleated. And I'm 155cm.

Height doesn't actually matter here to me.

If you end up looking like one of the Olsen sisters in these skirts, looking too overwhelmed,

I guess some heels can help you look better.

Or bun up your hair, tie it really high up. I don't know why but it helps.

Belts also help to accentuate your figure, so you won't look like you have wide hips.

I love wearing my skirts with shirts or tees and if I'm in a cold weather I really would love to try Natalia Alaverdian's look -the one with the polo tee, black skirt and camel coat.

She's short too, but she looks amazing in a heavy coat and long skirt.

There's something about this collection that is really attractive to me.

I'm a girl who loves shirts and sweaters and loafers, so even though this is a collection for men, I really love it.

This is one of the more androgynous collections I've seen, and the palette, materials, fit are really beautiful.

The styling is interesting too, it's possible to buy similar pieces and wear them like these.

I really treasure these old campaigns/ collections.

Some are recent but the concept resembles the older ones.

When you look at Christy Turlington in the Prada campaigns, you get what they are trying to sell.

It's pleasant to the eyes, it catches attention and it's not messed up by too many models, colours or photoshop.

Most of the time, I'm quite mod in my dressing

but Taghrid pushes me to add some brights into my wardrobe,

add in a Peter Pan collar shirt, a knit cardigan, add something grandma-ish.
